What Happens When Your Business Loves You Back
Last Monday was supposed to be just another workday. Our kids were off having their own summer adventures, and the calendar would suggest it was time to buckle down and work. But the beautiful thing about creating a business that loves you back is that you don’t always have to play by the calendar’s rules.
A few days ahead, Greg threw out the idea of a quick weeknight getaway. I was all in – and quickly booked a night at a charming hotel in St. Augustine. A quick reshuffle of meetings cleared Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, leaving space for a little adventure.
At 2 pm on Monday, I shut my laptop, grabbed my overnight bag, and Greg and I made our escape. We hopped in the boat and cruised down to St. Augustine, soaking up sun and salt air along the way.
By the time we docked at the city marina, my mind was untethered from my work. We walked a couple of blocks to our hotel—giddy and feeling like we were playing hooky. We kicked things off at the hotel bar with cocktails and appetizers, then explored the historic quarter until we discovered exactly what we were craving for dinner. Naturally, we wrapped up the night at our favorite local dive bar, enjoying live music, outstanding people-watching, and soaking in every ounce of laid-back fun.
Tuesday morning we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, and without rushing, climbed back aboard the boat for the relaxing cruise home—perfectly timed to jump right back into an afternoon filled with client calls.
